November and December roundup: red carpet, emcee, classic movie stars, astronauts, cops, frost, and more!

We really hit our pace in November & December 2013. We were happy to contribute to creative concepts for several events as well as add the best roving characters out there. These actors are talented, improv pros with longs lists of exciting acting credits -highly respected by their peers in the Vancouver acting community. We continued to concentrate on adding film-quality costumes to the characters. So guests and organizers know right away that they are at an exclusive, high-caliber event.

The Hard Rock Casino opened its doors on December 20th, and this fantastic new casino pulled out all the stops: a brilliant line-up of bands, roving entertainers and of course, the red carpet event to welcome VIPs and the public. We were asked to put together an electric red carpet welcome: professional cameras, TV cameras (with we already own), “paparazzi” & red carpet reporter -all jostling to take pics and interview the arriving stars. Each group that arrived on the red carpet got a taste of what it would be like to be a famous movie star. The “photographers” called out hilarious gossip questions and the red carpet reporter took new arrivals aside for side-splitting in-depth interviews, “mistaking” guests for Jennifer Lawrence, Tom Cruise, Ryan Gosling and many more. The guests LOVED the attention. It’s always amazing to see how fast the average person decides to play along and become a movie star for a few minutes!

TD Canada Trust was treated to an authentic Great Gatsby-style show-biz MC for their swanky roaring 20’s gala at Vancouver’s famous Commodore Ballroom. From his authentic 20’s tails to his snappy Vaudeville one-liners, Mike Cavers emceed the event, featuring a talent show & prizes. The challenge is always knowing where the next contestants are, rolling with cancelations and substitutions, hitting all the important announcements -meanwhile setting the mood, keeping them laughing, and letting the event coordinators take a deep breath and relax!

Next to the Rocky Mountaineer on Terminal Ave. What a fantastic venue! Bright Ideas Events transformed it into a 20’s style speakeasy, complete with a secret door & passwords and a jail cell for guests caught “displeasing” the Godfather!

Fortis BC enjoyed a Golden Age Hollywood event at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, and we had a blast adding glamour with our retro movie stars: Clark Gable & Vivian Leigh (stars of Gone With the Wind) and golden age icons Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe -truly the best Marilyn AND Chaplin in the city!

To the streets we went in early December, promoting Smithsonian TV Canada. An eclectic roster of characters for sure: an astronaut for Terror In the Skies, Seinfeld, because his pirate shirt is at the Smithsonian Institute, Jackie Kennedy for The Day Kennedy Died, The Fonz from Happy Days because his jacket is on display as well -and a mad scientist for the science content. A fantastic channel -and The Character Guys brought the characters to life, creating a Twitter “event” throughout downtown Vancouver.

Then to Whistler for our live version of Minute To Win It, with host Guy “Furry” followed by our very own “entertainment police” -providing an arresting welcome at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler -with comedy “security checks” and hilarious trivia challenges.

Rounding off the Christmas season, Mike played his favourite winter-themed MC character, Jack Frost. Mike is the first corporate entertainer in Vancouver to come up with this gregarious alternative to Santa for Christmas parties -and he knocks it out of the park every time.

And here we are halfway through January 2014 with more shows under our belts and more very happy guests and clients to add to our list of references!
